Our story

How Except began

g3.png In early 2004, unsatisfied with the standard of quality and level of commitment offered in the local and international markets, we decided to create Except. Our previous experiences in the local market moved us to create a space where we would be able to deliver quality software development and products, while at the same time being responsible with our social environment.

Since then Except has set itself the goal of providing responsible Free Software Solutions from Córdoba, Argentina, produced under development models that satisfy the quality demands of the market.

In October 2004, Anthony and John had the chance of participating in a retreat coordinated by ifPeople where the FairSource model for service outsourcing was discussed, and in particular the application of that model to IT outsourcing. Apart from the focus on development processes, we realized that it was a model that naturally extended our individual way of working, and satisfied several of the requirements that we had for our business model.

We started with a very small initial capital with no intentions of using external funds; this forced us to be profitable from day one. Our first funds came from saving a percentage of individual jobs, and some jobs done as a team to ensure that the human dynamics were the ones we expected.

In late 2004 we started sharing office space with some ifPeople personnel; this experience resulted in an increase in productivity and consolidation of the team. In early 2005 we began looking for a workplace to be able to grow, and in March 2005 we moved to our current offices.

We have been gradually hiring employees and collaborators, with emphasis on an organic team growth. We have also achieved the status of FairSource providers, and have incorporated agile development practices to increase the quality of our products. This has allowed us to take up larger projects and meet the challenges of our international clients.
