We stick to open standards as much as we can, on principle. We routinely develop cross-platform applications and cross-browser websites. Using solid standards that guarantee portability is the only way of staying more or less sane while doing this.

Web standards in particular are very good. They let you produce elegant, professional looking sites that work with any browser. They bring in more customers, reduce the bandwidth consumption, and improve the interoperability and accessibility of the content.
